Keys for work trucks, vans and company vehicles

Grove City locksmith job: replacement Dodge Ram proximity key for an HVAC work truck
A replacement fob for an HVAC company’s 2021 Dodge Ram. The missing key was erased from the truck’s memory.

Most of our Grove City calls are automotive, and a good share of those are work vehicles. GM, Ford and Dodge Ram trucks and vans from the 2000s on are familiar ground for us, whether it is one contractor’s pickup or a lot full of company vans.

A local HVAC company called us after a key went missing for one of their 2021 Dodge Ram trucks. We programmed a replacement proximity fob and erased the missing key from the truck’s memory, so the lost fob can no longer start it. On many vehicles both can be done in the same visit, though it depends on the vehicle and its key system.

If you run several trucks or vans, a spare for each one, made right in your lot, is the simplest way to keep one lost key from parking a truck for the day.

Semi-truck lockouts at docks and truck stops

With so many warehouses and loading docks in Grove City, we also get called to semi-trucks: at docks, in truck parking areas and at the larger gas stations. We open truck doors carefully, usually by picking the lock rather than wedging the door.

On September 30, 2026, a driver was locked out of a 2026 Freightliner Cascadia at a warehouse dock in the Southpark Place area. We got the driver back in, then made a duplicate key, so the next locked-in key would not cost another workday.

After a lockout we usually offer that spare at a good price. Replacement keys for semis come up too, for example after a fleet transfer or a driver change. Tell us the truck’s year, make and model, and we will tell you what we can do on site.

Car keys and lockouts for everyday drivers

Most Grove City drivers we meet have an ordinary family car, not a work truck: a lockout in a neighborhood or parking lot, a lost key, a push-to-start fob, or a spare transponder key. We make spares where the car is parked, at your home, in your driveway or at work, so a spare never needs a trip to a shop.

We also program keys customers buy online, as long as the part is compatible with the vehicle. When a Grove City MINI Cooper owner’s original key broke, they bought replacement keys online and called us for the key and programming work.

Ignition housing removed from the steering column of a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, showing the stuck steering lock, Grove City

Sometimes the key is fine and the problem is the ignition. A driver who works at one of the warehouses off Southpark Place couldn’t turn the key in a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, because the steering lock inside the ignition was stuck, a common problem on Volkswagen keyed ignitions. On a Sunday, right in the workplace parking lot, we took the ignition housing out of the steering column and repaired it.

If you buy or sell through the auto auction on Jackson Pike or a dealer lot, and a vehicle came with a single key, we can make a second one where it is parked.

We also do ongoing car key work for Taz Tires locations around Columbus, including the one on Harrisburg Pike: duplicate keys, replacement keys, and module programming when a vehicle needs it.

Commercial doors: exit hardware, mortise locks and rekeys

Grove City’s warehouses, stores, restaurants, offices and contractors call us for panic bars and exit hardware, including Detex alarmed exits, mortise locks and lever handles, door closers, storefront locks, commercial lockouts, rekeys and authorized master key work.

When a busy Grove City restaurant’s door stopped working properly, we replaced the worn mortise lock mechanism and got the entrance back in service. At a discount store in a Grove City shopping center, we repaired the Detex exit hardware, replaced its batteries, made a key for the Detex wall unit and rekeyed the store.

For restricted or controlled key systems we service, including applicable BEST and Schlage Primus systems, we make keys on site only, after checking the property and confirming that the person asking is authorized.

The Grove City Division of Police also provides a Business Security Checklist covering door hardware, employee access, and opening and closing procedures.

Duplexes and small rental properties

For privately owned duplexes and four-unit buildings, we have installed Kwikset Key Control deadbolts paired with passage knobs or levers. Each deadbolt has a tenant cylinder and a separate property manager cylinder, so the owner keeps access while tenant keys can be changed at turnover without replacing the lock. The passage knob does not lock, which removes one common way tenants get locked out.

Some owners start by handling the locks themselves and call us once keeping track of keys across several units gets complicated. That is normal: a building with several units is a different job from rekeying one house.

Rekeys and lock repair for Grove City homes

The most common home call in Grove City is a rekey after buying a house, brand new or decades old. Grove City is still growing, with new subdivisions such as Farmstead and Autumn Grove, and a move-in rekey is also a good time to add a keypad deadbolt.

When you move into a home, it’s worth checking more than just the keys handed over at closing. The Grove City Division of Police includes rekeying exterior locks, checking door hardware, and securing garage entrances in its Home Security Checklist.

In established neighborhoods we replace worn knobs and deadbolts, fix locks that stick or have broken, upgrade hardware finishes, and rekey after a change in the household: a former keyholder, an estate, a tenant change, or an eviction handled with proper authorization.

We come to home and condo lockouts all over Grove City. We have noticed more lockout calls when severe weather rolls through, so if it happens to you in a storm, you are not the only one.

What a Grove City locksmith visit costs

The regular daytime service call in Grove City is $85. The key, lock, programming, parts and labor are priced on top of that, depending on the job, and you get the price before any work starts. Specialty work, such as semi-truck keys, key control systems, controlled commercial keys and commercial door repair, is quoted once we know the exact job.

To get a quote faster, have these ready:

  • Vehicles: year, make and model, and whether you still have a working key
  • Homes and rentals: how many doors and locks, and a photo of the lock if you can
  • Businesses: the type of hardware, a photo, and who can authorize the work

For vehicles and controlled keys, we confirm the person asking is authorized before we make a key.

Do you work throughout Grove City and Urbancrest?

Yes. Grove City and Urbancrest are regular local service areas for us, including the 43123 area.

Are you a local locksmith or a call center?

We’re local. When you call us, we answer the phone and we come out to do the work ourselves. We don’t hand your job to another company or an unknown locksmith. Like our slogan says: we don’t dispatch others, we dispatch ourselves.

Can you make a spare transponder key at my house or workplace?

Yes. We can duplicate many car and work-vehicle keys where the vehicle is parked, including at homes and workplaces in Grove City.

Can you unlock a semi-truck at a warehouse or loading dock?

Yes. We handle semi-truck lockouts at warehouse docks, truck parking areas and larger gas stations around Grove City.

If a work-truck key goes missing, can it be removed from the truck’s memory?

On many vehicles, yes. Whether an old key can be erased depends on the vehicle and its programming system, so tell us the year, make and model.

Do you set up locks for duplexes or small rental properties?

Yes. We handle rekeys and tenant-turnover work, and we can install key control deadbolts for privately owned multi-unit properties.

Can you repair a commercial door instead of replacing everything?

Often, yes. We check the hardware and explain whether repairing it or replacing a worn mechanism makes more sense.

Do you make restricted commercial keys?

Yes. For restricted or controlled key systems we service, including applicable BEST and Schlage Primus systems, we make the keys on site only, so we can verify ownership and authorization before cutting anything.
