I got into locksmithing because it was a trade I understood and could build something real around. Since 2016 that’s what I’ve been doing in Columbus.
Why the name
The first is practical. Type 844-OHIO-KEY into your phone and the call comes to us. A number people can remember without looking it up matters when they’re standing in a parking lot at night.
The second is the logo. Columbus is a city attached to its university and its teams, and I wanted something that carried that. The key is built from the O, in those colors, and I’m proud to have found a way to use it that belongs to us.
How this business runs
Most locksmith numbers online belong to a dispatch company. You call, they sell your job to whoever accepts it first, and somebody shows up in a car you’d rather not see in your driveway. They quote one price on the phone and another once your lock is already open.
We don’t work that way. Call us and you reach us. Our own technician comes out in a marked van, and we give you the price before anyone drives anywhere.
That upfront estimate does two things. You know what the job costs before it starts, and neither of us wastes time on a job that isn’t a fit. Plenty of people call five locksmiths and go with whoever arrives first. We’d rather be the one you chose on purpose.
The work
Cars, homes and businesses, across Columbus and Central Ohio. Car keys and fobs, lockouts, ignitions, rekeys, deadbolts, smart locks, panic bars, door closers and commercial hardware.
Our key inventory is the largest in Central Ohio, as far as we can tell from looking at what else is out there. That means the key for your car is usually already in the van instead of on order.
Every key and fob we receive gets tested before it goes anywhere near a customer’s vehicle. Cheap fobs fail, wrong parts get shipped, and finding that out in your driveway helps nobody.
We stand behind our warranty. If something we did isn’t right, we come back and make it right.
European cars are a specialty. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo. They take the right tools and the right approach, and they’re the vehicles where doing it wrong gets expensive fast.
Where this is going
The plan is more locations for fast key duplication, so most of the metro is a short drive from good keys at a fair price. After that, one full shop that handles the complicated work, the jobs other people turn down.
We’re also growing the team, carefully. A technician represents the company at somebody’s front door, so that isn’t a hiring decision to rush.
The short version
I’m here to stay. Every job is a chance to do it right, and I’d rather learn something on a hard one than turn it away.
